The arthroscope is a thin metal tube that is inserted into the joints. It contains a light source, a video camera and a lens system that allows the orthopaedic surgeon to visualize images of the inside of the joint on a monitor.
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure to treat joint disorders. Through an initial incision of less than 1 cm the arthroscope is inserted and through additional incisions instruments are inserted to help perform the procedure.
