Advanced Arthroscopic Surgery

What is an arthroscope?

The arthroscope is a thin metal tube that is inserted into the joints. It contains a light source, a video camera and a lens system that allows the orthopaedic surgeon to visualize images of the inside of the joint on a monitor.

What is arthroscopy?

Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure to treat joint disorders. Through an initial incision of less than 1 cm the arthroscope is inserted and through additional incisions instruments are inserted to help perform the procedure.

Which joints are frequently treated by doctors at Orthokinetic centers?

Most often arthroscopy is used to treat knee and shoulder disorders. Elbow, ankle and fist follow in order of frequency. The number of conditions treated arthroscopically has been steadily increasing in recent years.
