Therapeutic massage

Massage offers a non-invasive and humanistic approach based on the body’s natural ability to heal.

Therapeutic massage is a general term for the action of pressing, rubbing and manipulating the skin, muscles, tendons and ligaments.

Massage therapists usually use their hands and fingers for massage, but they may also use their forearms, elbows and even their feet.

Massage techniques range from gentle to deep pressure techniques.

In Ortokinetic medical centers we offer several types of massage, including:

  • sports massage – aimed at people involved in sports activities to prevent or treat their injuries; it is a gentle form of massage involving prolonged skin contact, but also kneading, smoothing, friction, deep movements, vibration in order to relax and energize.
  • deep tissue massage – this is a form of massage where stronger pressure is used, targeting the deep layers of muscles and connective tissue, usually to treat muscle injuries caused by various accidents.
  • trigger point massage therapy – the massage focuses on trigger points or sensitive areas of tight muscle fibers that may form in the muscles as a result of injury or physical overuse.
  • reflexogenic zone massage or reflexotherapy – is considered an alternative therapy and the easiest form of treatment; areas of energy imbalance are found and by stimulating certain points energy harmony is restored; it can be applied at any age and the stimulated areas are the soles, palms, face, ear, tongue, spine;
  • reflexotherapy has both curative and preventive purposes because it can detect imbalances before the disease is felt, reflex points becoming sensitive and painful to palpation in case of a possible disease; it helps to improve blood circulation, eliminate toxins, regain mental balance, post-operative speeds up the body’s recovery and in case of fractures can greatly reduce the healing time.

Benefits of regular massage:

Increases circulation, and the body delivers more oxygen and nutrients to vital tissues and organs
Stimulates lymph flow, the body's natural defense system against toxic invaders
It increases blood circulation in the circulatory and lymphatic system;
Relax sore and overworked muscles
Reduces spasms and cramps
Increases joint flexibility
It shortens recovery time, helps prepare for intense training and eliminates athletes' subsequent soreness
It releases endorphins (the body's natural painkillers) - massage is used in frame diseases and in recovery from injury and following surgery to control and relieve pain
Reduces post-surgical adhesions and edema and can be used to reduce and realign scar tissue after healing has occurred
Improves flexibility and reduces discomfort in patients suffering from minor back pain
Soothes the pain of migraine sufferers and decreases the likelihood of needing medication
Requires exercise and stretching for atrophied muscles
Relieves depression and anxiety and speeds recovery

In addition to the benefits obtained in the case of certain diseases, massage involves a psychological comfort and is a good adjuvant for the general well-being of the patient.
Massage should not replace medical care specific to the patient’s condition.
