When is it necessary to replace a joint with a prosthesis?
A number of conditions can cause joint pain and functional impotence that often lead to joint prosthesis. In most cases, the pain is caused by thinning or destruction of the articular cartilage (the shiny white surface of the joint) as a result of joint wear (arthrosis), fractures or other conditions. Joint replacement is indicated when pain is severe and persists despite conservative treatment.
What are the long-term results?
Most patients who have joint replacement are able to perform daily activities more easily and with less pain. The prostheses have a lifespan of more than 10 years and patients’ quality of life is significantly improved by the disappearance or reduction of pain, increased muscle strength and freedom of joint movement.
At Orthokinetic we strive to offer you a return to normal life as quickly as possible and with minimal restrictions.
